Also, the company said 63 illegal pipeline connections were uncovered during the the weeks . The corporation, In a visual report, stated that at about 2 am on Sunday, a joint team of security agents discovered a large wooden boat illicitly loading stolen crude oil from Barge AGS01 within the OML 18 operating area, noted intelligence report a large wooden wooden boat was caught receiving crude oil from the barge. According to the state-owned oil firm, while the barge was towed away with a tugboat in custody, five speedboats used in towing the large wooden boat to the illegal loading site were also detained and the particulars of the tugboats and barge used for the operation were reportedly seized for further investigation. The Society for Professional Background Screeners (SPBS), has accredited five major companies in order to enable them provide screening, security and risk based advisory services effectively in Nigeria.
The firms include Halogen Group, Risk Control Services Limited, Background Check International, Primex Background Check Limited and Proton Security Services Limited.
This happens, as the body invites more firms to assist in championing the cause of background screening in Nigeria.
SPBS, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Mr Kola Olugbodi and made available to the
News Mirror, said the development was borne out of the needs to uphold the highest standards in the nation's screening industry.
"Our (SPBS) purpose is very clear. Right from the onset, our objectives are to minimize risks, uphold a reasonable level of integrity and establishing the highest and most valuable standard required for background screening practices in Nigeria. To achieve this goal, we have decided that companies should be able to produce a reasonable level of compliance, adherence to regulations and some measures of best practices in their operations, since they are there crucial ingredients which they must possess in order to put in place sustainable operations in a corporate world", Olugbodi added.
According to him, the association has achieved a milestone, by providing accreditations to five leading institutions in the country, adding that the development has underscored SPBS's unwavering commitment to provide one of the highest standards in the nation's screening industry.
Continuing further, Olugbodi listed members of SPBS' to include students, associates, certified professionals, fellows, and those companies, which have been honoured for providing exceptional record in the country.
"We eagerly welcome active participation and support from individuals and organisations across sectors of the economy in line with our determination to champion the cause of
background checking in various segments of the economy, Olugbodi added.
The association, Olugbodi said, has resolved to partner other companies which have goals and
aspirations, which are in tandem with its own locally and internationally, in order to improve background screening practices in Nigeria.
SPBS, Olugbodi said, will collaborate with relevant governmental bodies, with a view to
address pressing security issues, ensure a safer and more resilient country through background checks.
He noted that the recent accreditation of some leading firms, by SPBS is in recognition of their commitment to maintain highest standards in background checking and related industry services in Nigeria.
Recall that SPBS has greatly developed its operations, by setting standards for pre-employment vetting, as well as ensuring that business integrity and other initiative are provided in the industry.
