Egbin Power Plc is seeking rapid improvements in the ways and manners, in which electricity is being generated, distributed and transmitted in the country.
The firm recently inducted thirty graduate trainees in order to achieve this goal.
Picked from different universities across the country, the graduates, who are mostly engineers, are expected to undergo trainings in various strategic areas of electricity production in Nigeria and beyond. They include thermal, hydro and renewables.
Prior to this, Egbin, a subsidiary of the Sahara Power Group, has inducted over 200 graduate trainees.
Speaking at the Energy Training Centre, which is the venue of the induction ceremony at Egbin, the Group Managing Director, Sahara Power, Mr Kola Adesina, said that the firm has succeeded in changing power narratives in the country.
According to him, the company has helped in broadening the horizons of many graduates, as they are now masters in the fields of electricity production and distribution.
He said that the company is training engineers, as well as helping them to secure jobs in the industry.
"More than 200 young graduate engineers nationwide have been employed through this program since inception in 2014. This is in fulfillment of the plans of Egbin Power firm to empower youths and also develop their capacity in the sector. Sahara Power is delighted to lead the transformation process that will secure a sustainable future for Africa's power sector through the expertise of these engineers," Adesina said.

He said that the various upgrades, technologies, expansions and innovatives, which are being implemented in the company, require a corresponding human capital programmes in order to deepen the growth of the sector.
" Sahara Power Group has recorded notable achievements at Egbin, Ikeja Electric and First Independent Power Limited. The successes are not without the top talents, which were discovered in the industry by the management of the Group. The talents are young graduate engineers, who are going to be given first hand exposure in areas such as generation modules, technical projects and leadership trainings before their final onboarding at Egbin Power Plc.'' he added.
In a related development, the Managing Director, Energy Training Centre (ETC), Ibiene Okelekes said that the centre would train inductees on how to access top-notch learning facilities and modules, which are going to be delivered by experts in the sector.
"As one of the foremost power training institutions, the graduate engineers are not only going to be under our watch for the next 12 months, but would also be given training modules and made to go on field trips in order to enable grow well in the sector.," She said.
Recall that Egbin has a production capacity of 1320 megawatts ( Mw) of electricity, a development, which made it contributes 20 per cent of electricity, which is being consumed in Nigeria.
Also, the company has put in place environmental sustainability programmes in order to stimulate the growth of the ecosystem. Through this, the firm hopes to plant a million trees within its premises, deploy more than 250 electric scooters, bicycles, and buggies to promote the sustainable development goals on climate action, environmental protection and preservation campaign.
