Egbin Group says that twenty-seven newly inducted engineers are ready to demonstrate their capacity, in order to improve electricity generation in Nigeria.
Egbin is the largest generating station, with installed capacity of 1,320 megawatts of electricity ( Mw), which consists of six units of 220Mw each.
Owned by Sahara Group, a private sector driven organisation, Egbin distributes at least 20 per cent of power, that is being consumed in the country.
With interest to own the largest energy portfolios, which comprises of solar production among other,. the group has successfully trained three sets of graduate engineers for its operations.
The third batch of Egbin Power engineering trainee programme, which graduated weeks ago, went through 12-month comprehensive developmental programme before it was certified for operation. The exercise is organised in collaboration with Energy Training Centre (ETC), an agency, which ensures that young engineers focus on processes, procedures, and operations of the Nigerian Electricity Supply industry.
Speaking during the programme at its Ikorodu base, the Group's Group Managing Director, Mr Kola Adesina, described the programme as a critical intervention in building manpower, which boasts of skills required for infrastructural and human capital development in the sector.
He noted that investment in new technology, expansion initiatives and innovative achievements at Egbin Power Plc requires corresponding human capital profile, in order to ensure optimal performance and profitability in the industry..
“Employment has been a challenge in this country, so this initiative helps us bring in more young people into the business and equip them in order to add value in the sector. We would continually bring in value-adding personalities without doubt, they would add value to the asset of the company, be helping to resolve challenges, which Egbin has been experiencing for years," he said.
Similarly, the Chief Executive Officer,Egbin Power Plc, Mokhtar Bounour said that investment in workforce is key to success in any organization.
He said that the firm would continue to support the young engineers in order to seperate them from the packs.
“We are very proud of the progress, which our trainees have made so far and we believe that they are now well-equipped to make significant contributions to the sector. These are the future leaders and they deserve to be supported. We believe in them and we are counting on them to make a difference in bringing energy to life responsibly, “ Bounour said.
In the same vein, the Managing Director, Energy Training Centre (ETC), Mrs Ibiene Okeleke, said the learning academy gave the trainees access to top-notch learning facilities and curriculum delivered by a faculty of subject matter experts.
She said: “As one of Nigeria’s foremost learning institutions, these young graduate Engineers under our tutelage have gained extensive knowledge of the power sector. We look forward to seeing them solve the power challenges we face as a nation.”
One of the beneficiaries, Miss. Eseoghene Agbadudu, was visibly overjoyed.
Hesr her: “It is a fulfillment and an achievement for me, I am really excited to be part of this programme. We had the opportunity to be exposed to both the Technical and Commercial aspects of the Power Sector. So I hope to put all these learnings into play at Egbin Power, in bringing innovative ideas that can help improve the power sector.”
