Oando Acquires Oil Block In Angola

Oando Plc  Favour Ifeoluwa & Akinola Ajibade  Oando Plc  says it has completed and won the bid for the operatorship of oil block KON 13 in Angola. The firm which recently acquired Eni of Italy’s oil assets in Nigeria, said that the award of the oil block located in Angola’s onshore Kwanza Basin followed a competitive bidding process by the country’s oil and gas sector regulator. It further said hat the asset in which it owns 45 per cent participating interest, has estimated prospective resources of 770 to 1,100 million barrels of oil. Dangote Refinery will redefine domestic market, says SPE, NCDMB

Nigeria will become fuel sufficient as well as redefining the domestic market, once Dangote Petrochemical Refinery comes on stream this year, the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) have said. 

They said this after  a tour of the facility in Lagos recently.

Dangote Refinery has capacity to process 650,000 barrels of crude daily into 

into pertoluem products, a development, which has made it the largest refining plant in Africa.

According to them, Dangote Refinery Plant would help improve usage of fuel locally and beyond, secure  the future of young engineers in the country and compete favourably with counterparts globally.

The Chairman, SPE, Prof. Olalekan Olafuyi,said that the your was necessitated by the need for members to see the reality of the massive project.

He said; " Much has been heard and written regarding the refinery. Coming here has given us the opportunity to see the level of completion, application of world class technology and massive equipment which are new to the Nigerian downstream oil and gas industry.

Adding that: ' We have heard before about Dangote Refinery Plant and have also seen that the project is for real. After touring the plant,  we are amazed by the level of work that has already been done and we are eagerly waiting for its completion. 

Similarly, the  Director of Planning Research & Statistics, Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board, Patrick Obah stated that said that Dangote Refinery is not only revelling in the glory as the world largest  single-train facility, but also contributing to the implementation of the  Nigerian Content Policy by  engagaing local  engineers. 

“It is  awesome that this kind of project is happening here in Nigeria.  For the first time I saw a tank that could hold 120 million liters of liquid at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery plant. We are indeed happy that we have this kind of facility here in Nigeria.There is no doubt that the project gives inspiration to all visitors who come on a tour of the refinery.


Ogah added.                            Hefurther commended  Dangote Group for the investments, adding that it would spur growth in the oil and gas industry.

In a related development, the Assistant General Manager, Learning and Development & Stakeholder Relationship Management Dangote Projects, Dr. Ebele Oputa, stated that the coming is dedicated to the training of 

 of young engineers in Refinery Operations in Nigeria and beyond.

NNPC Completes Mechanical Rehabilitation of Port Harcourt Refinery Plant

By Favour Ifeoluwa & Akinola Ajibade The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, says that it has mechanically completed the rehabilitation of Area 5 Plant of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC). The nation's oil company began rehabilitation of the refinery two years ago, while at the same time, promised to complete its by 31st December 2023. The Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Ltd., Mr. Mele Kyari, said as of December 15th, 2023, 84.4% of Area 5 Plant, a key component of the Refinery, and 77.4% of the entire rehabilitation project have been completed. “In our quest to ensure that this refinery is re-streamed to continue to deliver value to Nigerians, we made a promise that we will reach a mechanical completion of phase one of the rehabilitation project by the end of December and get the other plants running in 2024.
