President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, invited the Presidental Candidates of People's Democratic Party( PDP) and Labour Party ( LP), Messrs Abubakar Atiku and Peter Obi respectively to join him in building the country.
This follows his affirmation by the Presideial Election Petitions Court(PEPC) in Abuja that he legitimately won the February 25th Presidential Election.
Recall that the issue has dragged for sometime, causing controversy among political gladiators, as major parties involved namely All Progressive Congress, Labour Party ( LP) and People's Democratic Party (PDP) claimed that they are won the election.
According to the tribunal, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar — did not successfully prove the allegations against this ground and indeed all the grounds in their petition, hence the declaration that President Tiinubu won the election.
Speaking on the matter, leader of the five-man Presidential Tribunal Panel, Justice Haruna Tsammani said, “This petition accordingly lacks merit. I affirm the return of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties are to bear their cost.”
Also, the court expunged 37 exhibits tendered by the witnesses from the its records.
He said the issue bordering on dumping of documents on the court, would only go to the weight to be attached to such evidence.
On the issue of Tinubu’s conviction and the issue of his dual citizenship, the Tribunal held that these issues were incompetent and liable to be struck out and same were indeed struck out.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party (LP) has rejected the judgments of the Presidential Election Petitions Court on the issue.
The party, in a statement after the verdict of the Tribunal on Wednesday, by LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said justice was not served in the petitions of the party against the APC and Tinubu.
He also said the Labour Party will make its next move known upon consultation with its lawyers after receiving the Certified True Copy of the judgments.
The party said the judgment of the court “did not reflect the law and the desire of the people”.
“Nigerians were witnesses to the electoral robbery that took place on February 25, 2023, which was globally condemned but the Tribunal in its wisdom refused to accept the obvious,” the statement partly read.
“What is at stake is democracy and we will not relent until the will of the people prevails."
