Queue at the filing station The President, Petroleum Products Retailers Owners of Nigeria( PETROAN), Dr Billy Gills Harry, says the reduction of the product, by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited( NNPCL) is good for the nation'struggling economy, as it would help in soften the difficult situations posed by the sharp rise in the price of petroleum products. While reacting to the issue through a statement issued and signed to the NEWSMIRROR yesterday, Harry said that the slight reversal of the price by NNPCL shows that the government is committed to the alleviation of the problems of the masses. According to him, the reduction in the price per litre of Petrol Motoring Spirit( PMS) from N1,020 per litre to N899 per litre is good, adding that the country will soon get over its problem, if the readjustment of the economy continues. The Accord Party has received 1000 new members into its fold, just as it relies on God to determine the outcome of February 26th Presidential election. They members are decampees from the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC).
The Party's Presidential Candidate, Prof Christopher Imumolen, said this in Lagos, during the innuguration of its Campaign Council/Handover and Presentation of Certificate of Return to Candidates For the Elections.
According to him, Nigeria recorded victories in past elections through her citizens, not financial inducements politicians.
Citing President Muhammad Buhari and his predecessor, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Imumolen noted that the duo won elections through the supports of Nigerians, who voted them into office, not money..
Said he: " God was the only determinant in their victories and He is going to do the same thing in 2023 for Nigeria." he said.
Continuing further, Imumolen assured members of five million votes for its Lagos governorship candidate, Hakeem Dickson, adding that he is going to win presidential election in February
Adding that: "In Nigeria, God plays His role, it is not highest spenders that have been voted as presidents of the country from available record. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo became president when he came out of prisons and he did not have money even in his account then.
"Then came President Yar'Adua, he too did not have money, he was not a money bag and followed by President Goodluck Jonathan. If it were to be on account of financial muzzle, our current president, Muhammadu Buhari wouldn't have become president," he said.
He lamented the poor state of the country, saying that the citizens were suffering as the level of poverty kept increasing.
Imumolen said the party was constantly receiving decampees from both APC and the leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that he would coming back to Lagos to
campaign for the party's governorship candidate.
"I am coming back next month to flag off campaign in Lagos. We shall receive thousands of decampees into the party. We have not won elections, we are already awarding scholarship, and we are giving jobs to people," he said.
He, therefore, tasked members to keep on mobilising support for the party all the candidates ahead of the poll, while also urging them to go and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as, according to him, the coming poll would be transparent and credible and, there was need for voters to come to their polling booths to exercise their franchise.
Also, the party's guber candidate, Mr. Dickson, assured that his administration, if voted into office, would offer scholarship and loans to students in need, adding that his administration would also abolish cut- off marks for students seeking admission into higher institutions.
One of the decampees, Jeremiah, who was a former member of APC in Ward G in Alimosho area of the state, said that education is key because nobody can grow without having it.
