By Favour Ifeoluwa & Akinola Ajibade The Federal Government yesterday( Monday) announced the transfer of Regulatory Oversight of the Electricity Market in Imo State to the state electricity regulatory commission, otherwise known as (ISERC). In a statement issued by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Common( NERC), the development is in compliance with the amended Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) and the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended), reiterating that all transfers envisaged by this order shall be completed by 31 December 2024. According to the Commission,the transfer Order’s provisions include: “Direct Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to incorporate a subsidiary (EEDC SubCo) to assume responsibilities for intrastate supply and distribution of electricity in Imo State from EEDC, and that EEDC shall complete the incorporation of EEDC SubCo within 60 days from 27th June 2024. Police has absolved the Chief Executive officer, Rainoil Limited, Dr Gabriel Ogbechie of allegations that he was planning to murder
one Prince Ned Nwoko, a politician law maker, who once represented Anochia Oshimili Federal Constituency in Abuja.
The police in its recently concluded investigations exonerated the business mogul ( Ogbechie) of the blame, adding that he practically knew nothing about the land and chieftaincy disputes in Idumuje-Ugboko community, in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Subsequently, the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, has commenced hearing of defamation suit against Ogbechie.
In the report released by the police, a certified true copy of which was made available to the media, the police completely exonerated Ogbechie of all criminal allegations made by Prince Ned Nwoko.
Recall that sometimes in February, 2021, Nwoko made series of allegations bothering on threat to life, murder and terrorism against Dr. Gabriel Ogbechie.
He (Nwoko) further alleged that a certain Osemeka Bosah Oscar who was allegedly privy to the information bothering on the purported threat to life, died mysteriously.
These allegations, among others, subsequently formed the basis of petitions written by Prince Nwoko and submitted to the Nigerian Police Force(NPF) against Dr. Ogbechie.
However, in its August 12, 2021, report, a certified true copy of which was recently released, the police conclusively found that there the
allegations made by Prince Ned Nwoko cannot be substantiated.
In the report signed by Acting Commissioner of Police then Y.Y Abubakar, Special Enquiry Bureau, Force Criminal Investigation Department, the police recommended that;
“In view of the above facts, investigation has not revealed any evidence to establish a Pima Facie case of conspiracy, threat to life of Prince Ned Nwoko and threat to life of Osemeka Oscar Bosah against the suspects…
Following the heinous allegations made by Prince Ned Nwoko, Dr. Ogbechie had also filed a defamation suit against him at the High Court of F.C.T, Abuja, presided over by the Honourable Justice Chizoba. N Orji. Hearing in the suit commenced on November 30, 2022, with Dr. Ogbechie giving evidence. In the suit, Dr. Ogbechie represented by a senior lawyer, Ekeme Ohwovoriole, SAN, is claiming, amongst others, a retraction of the defamatory publication made by Prince Ned Nwoko, a written apology and the sum of 1 billion Naira against Prince Ned Nwoko for defamation.
