This happens, as relations and passers- by in the area are counting huge losses suffered by the occupants of the building.
While many described the incident as tragic, others said that the occupants may not able to easily recover from the incident..
Coupled with this is the fact that many people, who are living around where the incident occurred are asking humanitarian agencies and the state government, to help the victims with funds in order to start a new life.
The house, which is located at 24, Ibadan Street, Off Herbert Macaulay Way in the area has been attracting people from far and near since Sunday Night, when the incident happened.
The News Mirror' gathered that at least eight people( five males and three females) have lost their lives since Sunday when the building crumbled. There is likeihood of recording more casualties, as the search for more victims continue
The National Emergenccy Management Agency( NEMA) iSouthWest Coordinator, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, in an interview with the media recently, said that 23 occupants of the building are nearing evacuation, adding that more people are going to be evacuated soon, as the search for them continue.
He said that the officials of the Lagos State Building Collapse Agency have begun the evaluation of occupants of the building, stating that the house has shown signs of distress before the incident.
“The building has shown signs of serious distress, with a part of it falling off.
“The building had earlier been marked as distressed but the occupants were deviant in leaving the premises,” Farinloye said.
Meanwhile, The landlord’s son, in whose care the collapsed three-storey building in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State was entrusted, said he gave the occupants of the building quit notice when he discovered the visible stress on it.
Also, the caretaker told reporters that he was living in the building with other occupants when he noticed signs of distress.
He noted that he later left the building and rented an apartment in the same vicinity.
The caretaker added that the quit notice was handed over to the occupants which they failed to adhere to.
According to him, he had not collected rental fees from the tenants for a long time since he had expected them to pack out.
Prior to this period, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said that the death toll from the three-storey building which collapsed on Sunday about 10:56 p.m had risen to eight..
