Oando Acquires Oil Block In Angola

The firm which recently acquired Eni of Italy’s oil assets in Nigeria, said that the award of the oil block located in Angola’s onshore Kwanza Basin followed a competitive bidding process by the country’s oil and gas sector regulator. It further said hat the asset in which it owns 45 per cent participating interest, has estimated prospective resources of 770 to 1,100 million barrels of oil. Nigeria eyes EVs, as Dangote, others invest N500b on assembling plants

Nigeria is targeting production of Electric Vehicles
(EVs), with a view to replace the fossil fuels' automobiles and further join the league of nations using similar means of transportation.
The developed economies, including United' States, Canada, United Kingdom among others, are believed to have been using electric vehicles alongside the ones that were tailored to use fossil fuels. 
The development aimed at complementing the global energy transition programmes, declared at the climate conference in Glasgow, United Kingdom and France few years ago. Both countries are said  in Europe.
Simply puts, energy transition initiative was adopted globally to enabe countries migrate from the use of fossils, which are believed to be toxic and unfriendly to the ecosystem to zero-carbon fuels, that are considered to be hygienic, safe and technologically proven.
This was revealed during the unveiling of the Electric Vehicles' Workshop at the Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos recently.
The workshop was put together by stakeholders in the energy sector, with the Nigerian Energy Support Programme( NESP) advisory capacity in this regard.
Also playing a pivotal roles are the Ministry of Power,its renewable energy sub-sector, , the German Government among other key  stakeholders in the local and international  energy landscape.(
The high point of the event was the launching of Electric Vehicles in Nigeria and what Nigeria stands to gain by embracing it in order to develop itself. 
The participants, nevertheless did Justice to the issue, as they canvassed support for the use of  EVs in the country.
Speaking at the event, the Director General/ Chief Executive officer, National Automotive Design and Development Council ( NADDC) , Mr Jelani Aliyu said that local auto companies are in sync with the aspirations of  Nigeria to build a virile automotive industry in the country.
He said that the local private companies including Dangote Sino Trucks have pooled together N500 billion to provide automobile assembly plants.
Others, he said are Innoson, PAN, Cherry, Stallion Group, Hyundai, Honda, and Elizade Nigeria Limited, JAC, Kojo, Jet Systems, National Truck Manufacturers, GAC, KIA and Micano/ Gelly. 
He noted that the auto firms have in the past few years been contributing finds among themselves in order to out up assembling plants in  Nigeria.
He describes the idea as nobel, as it coincided  with the period in which Nigeria is considering putting electric vehicles on its roads. 
According to him, the issue of adopting electric vehicles is relatively new in Africa, adding that countries are buying into the idea because of its multiple benefits to them..
Continuing further, Aliyu assured stakeholders that the use of EVs would gain ground in Nigeria, urging 
stakeholders in the automobiles industry not to relent in supporting the scheme.
The Nigerian Auto industry, Aliyu said,  has formulated policies through which battery recharge stations are built in some strategic parts of the country, stating that users would not find it difficult to enjoy their EVs in the country. ,(495)
On unveiling, he said the motorcycle is  capable of deepen Nigerians interest in the EVs, as it would provide more  economic  benefits to them.
Similarly, the Head of Unit, Sustainable Energy/ Access on Grid and Off Grid, Mr Olumide Fatoki, said that Electric Vehicles' would help in building socio-economic development in Nigeria and beyond.
He said  that NESP since inception, has committed  to the development energy in both On-Grif and Off-grid areas.

NNPC Completes Mechanical Rehabilitation of Port Harcourt Refinery Plant

By Favour Ifeoluwa & Akinola Ajibade The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, says that it has mechanically completed the rehabilitation of Area 5 Plant of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC). The nation's oil company began rehabilitation of the refinery two years ago, while at the same time, promised to complete its by 31st December 2023. The Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Ltd., Mr. Mele Kyari, said as of December 15th, 2023, 84.4% of Area 5 Plant, a key component of the Refinery, and 77.4% of the entire rehabilitation project have been completed. “In our quest to ensure that this refinery is re-streamed to continue to deliver value to Nigerians, we made a promise that we will reach a mechanical completion of phase one of the rehabilitation project by the end of December and get the other plants running in 2024.
