Oando Plc Favour Ifeoluwa & Akinola Ajibade Oando Plc says it has completed and won the bid for the operatorship of oil block KON 13 in Angola. The firm which recently acquired Eni of Italy’s oil assets in Nigeria, said that the award of the oil block located in Angola’s onshore Kwanza Basin followed a competitive bidding process by the country’s oil and gas sector regulator. It further said hat the asset in which it owns 45 per cent participating interest, has estimated prospective resources of 770 to 1,100 million barrels of oil. The House of Representatives Committee, has advised the Ministry of Power on the need to supply reliable electricity for the more than 200 million population in the country.
The chairman, House Committee on Power Hon. Magaji Da’u Aliyu,gave the advice during an interactive session on the state of the sector recently.
He said that the sector is in a terrible situation such that it requires immediate provision of electricity to Nigerians, not postulation of theories that would not translate into reality.
According to him, the seemingly unenthusiastic and fire brigade attitude of the Ministry towards power issues each time there is a national emergency is not the best, in view of the fact that Nigerians require urgent supply of power for growth.
He said that there was nothing in the programmmes of the government that the Power Ministry was addressing the problem of irregular supply of electricity in Nigeria.
Also , the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power Nebolisa Anoka said that there are many problems in the sector. The Power Minister is Abubakar Aliyu.
He said that the problems include poor gas supply, hydro levels, , as well as disequilibrium between power generation, transmission and distribution, a development which has resulted in the collapse of the national grid
He notes that the Ministry of Power recently hosted an emergency meeting with key stakeholders in the gas-to-power value chain, during which far reaching resolutions were arrived at on key measures needed to ameliorate the situation.
the challenges, he said, are not entirely predictable, adding that actions are being taken by the Federal Ministry of Power and other partner government"s Ministries Departments and Agencies ( MDAs.)
He pointed out that the issue of the right of way as stalling key transmission projects, assuring that the ministry will increase sources of supply through renewables, with a target of 30 percent generation through renewables by 2030.
