By Favour Ifeoluwa & Akinola Ajibade The Federal Government yesterday( Monday) announced the transfer of Regulatory Oversight of the Electricity Market in Imo State to the state electricity regulatory commission, otherwise known as (ISERC). In a statement issued by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Common( NERC), the development is in compliance with the amended Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) and the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended), reiterating that all transfers envisaged by this order shall be completed by 31 December 2024. According to the Commission,the transfer Order’s provisions include: “Direct Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to incorporate a subsidiary (EEDC SubCo) to assume responsibilities for intrastate supply and distribution of electricity in Imo State from EEDC, and that EEDC shall complete the incorporation of EEDC SubCo within 60 days from 27th June 2024. Bouyed by the remarkable improvements in the operation of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company ( DisCo) since privatisation of the sector in 2004, Lagos state government has commended the management of the firm for impacting greatly on the youths greatly.
The government, through its Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashsde Adefissyo, said the company has improved the capacity of the youths,by supporting technical education in the state.
In a statement made available to the News Mirror by company yesterday, the government attibuted the developmentt of technical education in the state to the Corporate Social Responsibility ( CRS) proogrammes of the firm.
It further praised Ikeja Electric for the achievements recorded by the Government Technical College ( GTC)in Ikorodu, as one of the numerous achievements in the areas of technical education in the state.
Still on Ikeja Electric, the government said that the distribution firm has helped in improving the trainings of the youths in the area of technical education, adding that many youths are now well equipped through that means.
Quoting the State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Adefissyo, the government said that the presentation of Electrical Workshop in the school was a noble development, that is capable of bringing out the best in the youths, who are mostly students.
According to the government, the facility has added to the value of the school, adding that the feat would not have been possible without Ikeja Electric.
The firm quoted Adefissyo as saying that the facility is a good one provided by Ikeja DisCo.

Similarly, the Executive Secretary , State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB, Ms. Moronke Azeez commended the utility company for the provision, adding that the mission of the Board was to provide industry response and gender inclusive technical and vocational education.
According to her, the Board was interested in the training of the students, as well as engaging technical partners to assist in creating startups and employment opportunities for them.
She said the State currently had about 400 partners involved in the exercise, adding that there was need for more private sector support of technical and vocational education in the state.
On her own part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ikeja Electric, Folake Soetan said that the upgrading of the facility was one of the ways, in which the company was giving back to the society where it's operates
