MPC's Recent Policy Affects Manufacturers

UCH-IBEDC's Management: We Are In Darkness

Staff of the Hospital By Favour Ifeoluwa & Akinola Ajibade Workers of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, in Oyo state have protested over epileptic power supply in the institution,saying they cannot continue to work in darkness. They spoke yesterday ( Wednesday) during a congress organised by Joint Action Committee (JAC),which is the umbrella body of all the unions in the hospital. According to JAC Chairman, Comrade Oludayo Olabampe, the power supply to the hospital has been cut off by Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) since Tuesday, 19th March, 2024 due to N495m debt. Olabampe,who spoke on behalf of other staff of the hospital appealed to the Federal Government, the St ate Governor, Seyi Makinde and other stakeholders to come to the aid of the hospital. He added that staff of the hospital have been working in a terrible conditions since the power supply was cut off. He said that the workers will not be able to perform their duties as expected

Insurance Industry Records Gross Premium 0f N1.003 Trillion

By Favour Ifeoluwa & Akinola Ajibade The Insurance industry of Nigeria had at the close of fourth quarter of 2023 recorded growth in Gross Premium of N1.003 trillion, representing about 27 per cent growth compared to the N790 billion recorded in 2022. The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) disclosed this recently in a document entitled: Market Performance at a Glance -Q4, 2023. According to the commission, Non-Life business accounted for 61.3 per cent of all premiums written during the year, while the Life segment contributed 38.7 per cent, valued at N388.1billion. A review report showed that the market also recorded a retention of about 87.7 per cent for the Life business, just about 54 per cent for Non-Life, while the aggregate market average retention stood at 66.7 per cent during the same period. NUPRC -Crude Oil Producers: Prioritise Supply to Local Refineries

He said this on Tuesday in Abuja during a review of Domestic Crude Oil Supply Obligation as contained in Section 109 (2) of the Petroleum Industry Act. According to him, the overall objective of the Federal Government was to ensure that Nigeria becomes a net exporter of refined petroleum products. “Producers should satisfy their domestic crude oil supply to the domestic refineries so that as a nation we seize the opportunity to reverse the ugly trend by ensuring that we develop our midstream and end being a net exporter of petroleum products, especially now that we are trying to exit the subsidy regime. The Executive Order relates to tax incentives exemption, remission and other incentives for development, production, processing and consumption of non-associated gas (NAG) in the country. Speaking on the issue, the group's President, Mrs. Eyono Fatayi-Williams, said the new presidential executive order comes with the long required incentives for unlocking oilfield development investments in the nation’s petroleum sector. 'NNPCL Deactivates 6, 465 Illegal Refineries'

CBN Revokes 4,173 Licences of BDC Operators

The apex bank blamed the development on the refusal of the affected operators to observe the necessary regulatory provisions. The bank, in a statement issued yesterday, (Friday) by its Acting Director, Corporate Communications,Sidi Ali Hakama, said the move is part of efforts to restore confidence in the nation’s foreign exchange market. It noted that the list of affected BDC operators is available on the its website,adding that it is revising the regulatory and supervisory guidelines for Bureau de Change operations in Nigeria. The bank added that compliance with the new requirements will be mandatory for all stakeholders in the sector.
